Stress is your body’s reaction to mental or emotional pressure. We all experience stresses and pressure in everyday life and a small amount of stress can be a good thing, it can motivate us and give us the ability to deal with situations that require us to think or act quickly and it is what gives us the get up and go to deal with life and get us out of bed in the morning.

 

Pressure can turn to stress and cause problems when we feel unable to cope with the stresses put upon us. Stress can affect how you think, feel, behave and react and can lead to many different issues, including sleep problems, anxiety, anger, fear and even physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach problems, high blood pressure or even heart attacks and stroke.

 

Stress causes a physical reaction in your body – the ‘Fight or Flight’ response, and your body reacts in the same way whether you have an argument at work or are facing a life or death situation. The more stressed you are, the easier it is for your body to react as if there is an emergency, and the long term effects of living with stress can be overwhelming.
